- Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)
- The heart stops pumping effectively. Not the same as a heart attack, though a heart attack can cause one.
- AED
- Automated external defibrillator. Analyses the heart rhythm and advises or delivers a shock when one is needed.
- Real CPR Help®
- ZOLL feedback on compression rate and depth, given as audio prompts, a visual gauge, or both depending on the model.
- Compression depth
- How far the chest is pushed down. Too shallow and the heart is not squeezed enough; too deep risks injury.
- Compression rate
- Compressions per minute. An adaptive metronome on the AED Plus guides the rescuer toward a workable rate.
- Compression fraction
- The proportion of the rescue spent doing compressions rather than paused. Higher is better; it is what RapidShock and the CPR Dashboard are trying to protect.
- Release velocity
- How quickly the chest is allowed to recoil between compressions. Recorded by the AED 3 BLS for post-event review.
- RapidShock™ analysis
- ZOLL rhythm analysis that shortens the pause before a shock — as little as five seconds on the AED 3 and AED 3 BLS.
- CPR Uni-padz®
- One electrode set for adults and children. Child mode is selected on the device rather than by changing pads.
- CPR-D-padz®
- The one-piece adult electrode used with the AED Plus, supplied with a rescue kit — scissors, gloves and a mask.
- IP55
- Ingress protection: dust-protected and resistant to water jets. Relevant for vehicles, gyms and outdoor cabinets.
- Semi vs fully automatic
- Semi-automatic devices ask the rescuer to press the shock button. Fully automatic devices deliver the shock themselves.
- RescueNet® EventSummary
- ZOLL's post-event report — rate, depth, release velocity and compression fraction — used for clinical review.
- PlusTrac®
- Program management software that tracks pad and battery expiry, responder certifications and compliance.
